Movie name please??????

This is a 90s movie. As a kid, i watched it and i found it hilarious. Basically the protagonist's friend is about to get married, and as they go to the ceremony, the pro. reminisces about how he first came to the town, got beat up once and eventually got the girl in the movie. It's a "black" movie, i think wesley snipes was the grown version of the star and there are points where the boy stops focussing on s and prefers in his senior year rofl. That's the one thing i remember him saying. Please help.
