Do you think people who refer to people as sinners suffer from self-hatred?

I am always so interested in the concept of people as sinners, as if we all are inherently evil. How do you all think this ties in with the concept that we must all obey an authority figure that must redeem or save us? does this concept seem like it's damaging to peoples self worth?
