Help with engine modifications, alterations?

i have an 86 cutl supreme, and am currently going to auto school, i just bought this car like a month ago and is my daily driver also a project car, i would like to do some engine mods to it and tweak around with it, anyone know what would be some good things to start with or do to make it run/sound better/cleaner? thank you.
