false. i believe it is false only because there was a grhopper plague in 1874 in the states but the dust bowl was not until the 1930's. which included a drought after the farmers had started plowing the virgin soil of oklahoma causing it to destroy the gr holding the soil in place making dust storms which lead to the farmers being in poverty because they couldn't make crops in the crappy soil
