Question about racist people in America?

Will racism ever go away in America? Especially in the south? And why are white people afraid to be equal with blacks and hispanics in this country? And why can't a lot of white people just bury all of the hate that some of their fathers and grandfathers instilled in them and just accept the fact that blacks and other people of color are going to go to the same Heaven or hell as the rest of us!
